About Us

We are a multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers with backgrounds ranging from physics to physiology to toxicology to mathematics. Each researcher can bring their expertise to the table. The thrust of this research is to combine state of the art imaging, experimental techniques, and numerical methods to describe the anatomy and physiology of a rodent respiratory system. The respiratory system will be described on multiple scales, from the size and shape of the airways, to the cellular components of the airway walls. In the later years of the grant, we hope to extend this methodology to describe the human respiratory system. The co-principal investigators on this grant are Richard Corley from the
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Michael Hlastala of the
University of Washington (UW). Both of the principal investigators bring with them strong teams of researchers. In addition to
PNNL and
UW, we have teamed up with institutions are as far flung as our backgrounds, including
University of California-Davis,
University of Utah,
CIIT,
The Mountain-Whisper-Light Statistical Consulting,
University of Iowa, and
Computational Geometry Consulting.
